| Physical and Chemical Properties | The crude product is a white to yellow or light brown translucent resin, intact in the shape of a stalactite, cross-section shell-like, can also be fragments or powder, sometimes mixed with bark. The refined product is white to light yellow, and should not be mixed with wood fragments. Substantially odorless, but the refined product may have the odor of the volatile oil during the refining process. The melting point was about 120 °c. The relative density (dD20) was 1.05~1.08. Insoluble in water, soluble in ethanol and ether, soluble in toluene, benzene, essential oil, petroleum ether and carbon tetrachloride. |

| Introduction | Dama resin is a genus of hopea in the borneaceae of Southeast Asia, secretions from plants of the genus Balanocarpus, Shore A and Vateria, and the olive of the olive family, which are transparent, light yellow to amber solid in appearance, containing carboxylic acids, aldehydes and sugars, triterpenoids. It has been reported that the triterpenoid compound in Dama resin is the precursor of ginsenoside biosynthesis, damalenediol-II, and its analogs. |
